One cubic yard of soil covers 100 square feet at a 2 inch depth.
Alternate Method
You can also use a standard equation where you find the total square footage of the beds you want to cover. Then divide the square footage by 100 to get the number of cubic yards required.
- 1 Cubic yard of mulch will cover 324 square feet 1 inch deep.
- 1 Cubic yard of mulch will cover 100 square feet 3 inches deep.
- 27 Cubic feet in 1 yard bucket.
If you are comparing to bagged mulch, a normal bag of mulch has 2 cubic feet in it; one bucket scoop would be equivalent to almost 14 bags.
